A new rhythm and blues club has been launched in Penzance, promising some of the best stomping blues riffs around.

The Mill Rhythm and Blues Club will meet monthly at The Mill Restaurant and Bar, with house band Doctor Dobro providing the backdrop to the proceedings while inviting guest musicians and other bands to the stage.

Doctor Dobro has spent the last 18 months building up a solid following across west Cornwall, with their gutsy original compositions and choice repertoire of covers based around country blues.

The band consists of Alan Furneaux on vocals, Stuart Tizzard on lead guitar, Ged Kingsford on drums, Graham Smith on harmonica and Dave Berriman on bass. They have recorded two albums.

The launch night for The Mill Rhythm and Blues Club is on Friday, February 29, with Doctor Dobro and special guests.

Blues Club organiser Alan Furneaux said: “The club will be a broad church. Doctor Dobro play a mixture of our own original material as well as familiar foot- tapping, danceable singalong tunes – with something for everybody.”

Tickets are £3 on the door, to include a raffle. For more information, go to: www.themillpenzance.co.uk.
