Cornwall's very own British Jazz Award winner is bringing her quintet to Helston for a special charity jazz concert to support Cardiomyopathy UK.

Amy Roberts will be leading her quintet in an evening of cross cultural music from the early days of jazz standards and ballads, through to rip-roaring Latin features, jive and swing.

This is the third Christmas jazz concert to be organised by John Austin and Alf Merritt, which will once again celebrate the musical influence Helston School Jazz Orchestra (HSJO) has had on its former members.

Richard Exall, another of the UK's finest multi-instrumentalists, who is also a former student of HSJO, will be joining Amy for the concert, along with David Ferris and Mark Trounson, both former HSJO students, and Steve Vintner.

The concert will include 'Tutti’s Trumpets' - a dedication to the great Tutti Camarata directed by Clive King, musical director of HSJO. The ensemble features Clive King, Tony Richards, Jane Marks and John Austin.

Jazz for the heart will be held at Helston’s Godolphin Club on Thursday, December 22 at 7.30 pm.

Tickets cost £12.50, or £10 for concessions, and are available from Gillian's Larder, Meneage Street and The Godolphin Club, Wendron Street.

All proceeds will be donated to support the work of Cardiomyopathy UK, the heart muscle charity.
