Devoran will welcome Irish traditional singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell for a performance at the village hall on Sunday, April 2.

Daoirí, from Dublin, is the new voice of Irish traditional music, and has already been nominated for three 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as being chosen to perform at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony.

Daoiri will be appearing at Devoran Acoustic Sessions at Devoran Village Hall, bringing distinct, perceptive and fluid vocals and an instrumental musicianship honed through years of study, all driven by a deep love of Irish traditional song.

Although the only singer or musician in his immediate family, Daoirí was introduced to the music at a very early age by his parents who shared a keen interest in artists such as Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Frank Harte, Planxty and The Bothy Band. He took up music at the relatively late age of 16 and only started to perform at 23, releasing his debut album The First Turn in 2009.

Daoirí then took an extended break from recording to pursue a degree in applied music at Dundalk’s Institute of Technology, followed by an MA in music performance at the World Academy of Music at the University of Limerick.

Since Daoirí’s return to the stage, he has regularly performed in the many singing circles and folk clubs around Ireland, from Dublin’s famous Góilin singers club to the All-Ireland Fleadh.

He became the All Ireland Champion Singer at the Fleadh in County Derry in 2013 and won the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2015 with the line-up Four Winds.

Daoirí's second solo album, True Born Irishman, was released in October 2016.

Daoiri Farrell will perform at Devoran Village Hall from 7.30pm on April 2, and tickets are £10.50, available from 01872 262466 or hallforcornwall.co.uk.

The audience are welcome to bring their own refreshments, with plastic glasses only.
