If you fancy getting in the mood ahead of the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, then the event's official CD which has been released this week, could be just the thing.

The double-disc CD features tracks from groups appearing at this year's festival including Fisherman's Friends, Falmouth Shout, Rum and Shrub and Bounding Main, from the USA. The CD costs £10, with all profits going to the Falmouth Lifeboat fundraising appeal. It can be bought from The Cornish Store in Arwenack Street and from the RNLI shop in Tinners Walk, near the docks.

Also appearing on the CD are the Tavy Tars, who, like the shanty festival, have be going for 13 years. Based at Bere Ferrers on the Tavy Estuary, they sing a mixture of "rollicking" shanties and quieter sea songs. Over the past year they have sung from the Scillies to Gloucester in pubs, clubs and the occasional boat, Seasalt Shop and old folks’ tea.

"We still really enjoying playing and singing together and are looking forward to the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival again- it is definitely one of the highlights of our year," they said.

Joining the Tavy Tars on the line-up, and coming across from Brittany in France, will be Kanerien Trozoul

who were formed during the Ploumanac'h Festival in 1991 by a team of friends from Trébeurden and its suburbs.

They say: "The powerful bass tone evokes stories related to the maritime heritage of the Brest, Cape Horn and Newfoundland regions. Our female members bring a touch of class to the group and indeed our name derives from the word 'kanerezed' which is the Breton word for singing girls.

Their songs are performed a capella or accompanied by one or several instruments, including guitar, violin, double bass, harmonica, concertina, mandolin, Irish flute and small percussion.

"For the fourth time in 2017 we look forward to attending this fantastic festival and meeting all of our friends,"

they said.
