An Evensong will take place at All Saints' Parish Church in Falmouth, on Sunday, June 4, at 5pm when almost 50 choristers from three Anglican churches, all with highly regarded choirs, will sing together under the baton of Andrew Millington.

The augmented choir of Falmouth’s All Saints Church, who have been honoured twice by being invited to sing the services at Truro Cathedral during the cathedral choir’s holiday and also delivered an excellent service of Nine Lessons last Christmas, will be joined by the parish church choir of Cornwall’s St Ives and the parish church choir of Topsham, near Exeter.

The conductor, Andrew Millington, has had a sparkling career in church music. On gaining a scholarship he trained as an organist at Cambridge University, and has been involved over the last 40 years as organist, director of music and choirmaster at Guildford Cathedral and more recently at Exeter Cathedral. He has been the conductor of several notable choirs, taking them on foreign tours and into festivals. He is also a composer and has had many works published.

A number of his compositions will be performed at the Evensong along with introit, responses, and a fanfare composed by the conductor, and the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Herbert Brewer.

The St Ives choir, led by Peter Luing, and the Falmouth All Saints' choir, with musical director Daniel Shermon, travelled to Topsham to join the choir of St Margaret’s, which is directed by Tony Yates, earlier this month. The combined choirs sang the same programme of music at Evensong which was conducted by Andrew Millington.

Evensong does not normally take place at All Saints Church, and it is hoped that people might be attracted to this exciting summer’s evening event. Nowadays lively and active church choirs can normally only be found some 20 or 30 miles from one another, and Falmouth is extremely fortunate in having the well-respected choirs of King Charles the Martyr and All Saints church within its boundaries.
