The St Ives September Festival will be held at The Guildhall from September 8 and will last 15 days, showcasing acts with a distinct westcountry flavour.

The opening night will be headlined by Devon folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman, who is currently taking part in a collaboration with Robert Plant.

Fisherman's Friends, Cornwall's own sea shanty singers, will also be making at appearance at the festival, playing a set on Monday September 10.

The group started off their career by singing traditional shanties by the docks at their native Port Isaac, and were picked up by a major record label in 2010.

Their first release with the label, Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends, went gold and reached number nine in the UK charts, and they have been credited with starting a revival of traditional sea shanty singing.

Folk singer Seth Lakeman has come a long way since his appearances at the festival in 2011 and 2014, and has been touring as part of Robert Plant and the Sensational Shape Shifters since mid-2017.

Whilst on tour, Lakeman has been performing both as part of the headlining band, and with his own project as the support act, meaning that he is often on stage for up to four hours at a time.

Lakeman said that he is "really looking forward to heading back to St Ives in September."

Exeter-based Sound of the Sirens will be playing on Wednesday September 12.

The group is made up of Abbe Martin and Hannah Wood, and they will be returning to the St Ives Festival following their impressive 2016 appearance.

Since then, they have released a debut album, For All Our Sins, and played Glastonbury, Camp Bestival and the Isle of Wight festivals as well as supporting both Rick Astley and Kiefer Sutherland on UK tours.

The two week festival will host a range of other acts including singer-songwriter John Otway, "father of grunge folk" Wild Willy Barrett, Steve Knightley, New Jersey Boys, Hackney Colliery Band, Rusty Shackle, Daphne's Flight, The Young 'Uns, and more.
