Nottinghamshire folk punk band Ferocious Dog will play Princess Pavilion on June 16.

The band were named by frontman Ken Bonsall's son Lee, who took his own life after struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that begun after seeing his best friend getting shot by a sniper in Afghanistan.

Ken formed the band back in 1988 with violinist Dan Booth whilst working as a miner in a Nottinghamshire colliery and playing pub gigs in between shifts.

In more recent years he has recruited a bigger lineup to give the band a fuller sound and add some eclectic musical influences. Their combination of instruments creates a palette of varied sounds including harder rock to get the audience moving as well as melodic passages and dub-like fusions.

After his son's death, Ken and his elder son Daniel who plays fiddle, channelled their energy into the project and released their first album in 2013.

The band have gone from strength to strength and in 2015 made headlines for being the first unsigned band in 35 years to sell out their hometown venue Rock City in Nottingham.

Since their self titled debut in 2013 the band have released four more albums and a live DVD that was filmed at Rock City.

The current lineup features Ken on vocals and guitar, Dan Booth on violin, John Alexander on bass guitar, Leslie Carter on electric guitar, Alex Smith on drums, and John Leonard on guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

The Princess Pavilion gig on June 16 starts at 8:00pm. Tickets cost £16.50 and are available from ents24.com.
