A day of literary delights with best selling authors

CORNWALL Library Service’s Wonderful Words Festival is playing host to an impressive line-up of respected best selling authors at a Readers’ Day on Thursday, September 18.

Running from 10am to 4pm, The Peter Lanyon Rooms at University College Falmouth, Tremough is the venue for a day packed with opportunities to discuss books with writers including Marina Lewycka, best selling author of award winning first novel A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian which was translated into 32 languages and won the Bollinger Everyman Prize for Comic Fiction 2005. Her follow up novel, Two Caravans, has also been widely acclaimed and was chosen by the Cornwall Big Read to celebrate Cornwall’s growing diversity and to illustrate and enjoy its own and visiting cultures. Marina is expected mid afternoon and will be interviewed by Mac Dunlop, poetry editor for Cornish World, at a session with all readers.

Participants may also choose to attend two from four sessions each hosted by a particular author. One session will feature Mac who will be joined by the Chairman of the event, writer and poet John Siddique. Mac was born in Norwich but grew up in Canada and John is from Yorkshire with an Anglo Irish Indian heritage.

Patrick Gale from the Isle of Wight and now living in Penwith will be discussing Notes from an Exhibition; a story of family, art, mental health and Quakers in Penzance.

South African novelist and educationalist Marion Molteno gives us glimpses into the displaced lives that motivate her. Somewhere more Simple is her most recent novel and is set on the Isles of Scilly.

Crime novelist Simon Hall, the TV detective from Exeter and reporter for BBC SW Spotlight will be discussing this third novel, Evil Valley set on Dartmoor and launched on 15th September. Expect anecdotes from his double life and his evening sharing the stage with Inspector Morse creator Colin Dexter A limited number of tickets for the Readers’ Day are available at £10.00 each, which includes a buffet lunch with the authors.
