Leading UK choreographer Jacky Lansley premieres two powerful new works on January 18 and 19 in a commission by Hall for Cornwall as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

In View from the Shore, Lansley conjures the experience of the Cornish coastal landscape inside the theatre, inspired by her long-time knowledge of the region and the communities which live there. The Cornish Sinfonia plays Lindsay Cooper's beautiful Concerto for Sopranino Saxophone and Strings with soloist David White.

The evening continues with Anamule Dance where Lansley choreographs to the crackling, evocative recordings of the great jazz pioneer Jelly Roll Morton, arranged and developed by composer Jonathan Eato. The piece draws the audience into a rich and complex culture which produced some of the most important music of the 20th century.

The programme has been created in residence in Cornwall with an exceptional company of experienced dancers including Fiona Chivers, Fergus Early, Quang Kien Van, Timothy Taylor,Tania Tempest-Hay, Helen Tiplady, Sally Williams and Sheron Wray.

Jacky Lansley says: "I am particularly delighted to be making work for and in Cornwall which has been inspirational to me for many years, and also to be returning to the stunning Clore Studio at the Royal Opera House where my project Holding Space received critical acclaim in 2004."

Jacky, who began her career with the Royal Ballet Company before studying at the London Contemporary Dance School, has a small studio on The Lizard as well as her larger Dance Research Studio in London.

A pioneer of the British New Dance movement, Jacky Lansley is performing and choreographing work with innovative groups such as Strider, Limited Dance Company (with co-founder and film director Sally Potter of Orlando fame) and X6 Dance Space where she forged her unique style in early works such as Dance Object, Dancing Ledge (with Rose English) and Performing Dog Act.
