A traditional Cornish festive pantomime that promises Father Christmas, Cornish fairings and affordable prices will be performed at The Acorn in Penzance by a fabulous theatre ensemble, Scary Little Girls, on dates running from December 11.

Duffy Beats the Devil is based on a classic Penwith hearthside Christmas play with values of community, friendship and sharing, and has been produced so that it is accessible and affordable for families.

Artistic Director, Rebecca Mordan, said: “The age-old tradition of professional, well-made, locally-produced pantomime is sadly dying out in this country; it’s being replaced by big, expensive productions that most families struggle to afford these days.”

Produced by Scary Little Girls, the theatre team who recently sold out the Minack Theatre, Duffy Beats the Devil, is a beautiful, lavish and colourful production boasting the very best of local professional acting and theatre talent.

With original music from one of Cornwall’s best-loved composers, T J Holmes, and extravagant sets and costumes by Jude and Alan Munden, who are more normally associated with the Olivier Award-winning English Touring Opera, this is one panto with enviable production values.

Narrated by Father Christmas, the story follows Duffy, a poor orphan from Penwith trying to make her way in the world when she suddenly encounters the pantomime’s evil villain, the Devil, and must succeed through a series of hilarious romps and thigh-slapping escapades to secure her future.

Duffy Beats the Devil runs at The Acorn Theatre on December 11, 12 16 23 and 28-30. Tickets are £8 for children and £12 for adults.F or tickets visit: crbo.com or call 01736 363 545.
