The story behind one of the most famous jazz clubs in the world is being told in a jazz spectacular at the Hall for Cornwall next week.

The Ronnie Scott's Story is a visual and musical celebration of Ronnie Scott's jazz club, which was opened in London's West End in 1959 after saxophonists Ronnie Scott and Pete King had dreamt of opening a club modelled on the swinging jazz clubs of New York's 52nd street.

Combining world class live jazz from the Ronnie Scott's All Stars, narration and rare archive video footage, the show charts the club's rise from a basement bar where local musicians would jam, through its trials and tribulations which led to landmark performances from now-legendary jazz icons, to become the internationally acclaimed jazz venue it is today.

Life at Ronnie’s is reimagined through tales of the club’s past visitors, from pop stars, film stars and politicians to comedians and royalty, but above all, the musicians.

Co-hosted by saxman, Alex Garnet, and pianist James Pearson, Ronnie Scott’s musical director, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars perform music by many of the great acts that have graced the clubs stage, exemplifying the classic sound of the great era of jazz.

The Ronnie Scott's Story will be at the Hall for Cornwall on Thursday, June 23 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01872 262466, or online at www.hallforcornwall.co.uk.
