Brexit, benefits, broken homes and Viagra are only a few of the issues examined in Remedies, a new play which is coming to The Poly later in May.

The play, written by Matt Roberts and performed by Middleweight Theatre Company, is set within the four walls of a local pharmacy, featuring two opinionated, strong willed and polarised members of staff.

As they witness the ailments and sicknesses of the public, they may be able to administer the medicine, but can they find the remedy for the the ills of Britain?

Brexit and 'broken Britain' are two familiar concepts to anyone living in the United Kingdom, and Middleweight bring the debates and disagreements, as well as the ideas of unity, to an audience which they say is "still reeling from the outcome of what is only the beginning."

Remedies is the fourth production from Middleweight Theatre Company, which formed in 2013 ahead of their first original play Sound Bite, a story of two Nasa operatives tasked with coming up with the first words for the first man on the moon.

That was followed by a production of Ray Cooney's Run For Your Wife, before they took Insensible, their second original play about Dr William Morton and the invention of analgesia, for a two week residence at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Remedies is at The Poly on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £10 for adults or £8 for concessions at thepoly.org
