Inclusive dance theatre company Shallal is set to bring their show Doorways with Ladders and Footprints to Falmouth University’s AMATA Performance Centre on Friday, January 12, for a last chance to see the work performed.

Originally two site-specific shows, Shallal’s Doorways was devised for Godolphin House, and Ladders and Footprints for Falmouth Library. The show successfully brings the best of both shows inside for a stage production which promises mesmerising improvised dance, ingenious costume and compelling drama.

Both shows were made as part of Shallal’s Cornish Doorways project, a quest for doorways to learning and opportunity. As well as original dance and music created by Shallal members and artists, the show will include creative writing and poetry, some translated into British Sign Language.

Shallal’s connection with AMATA goes back to the venue’s inaugural show, where the dance company was chosen to perform. "Shallal produces inspiring work which is both highly visual and theatrically surprising with a combination of both pathos and humour," said Falmouth University vice-chancellor and chief executive, Anne Carlisle. "Companies such as this make experimental theatre accessible to all actors and audiences."

Shallal is grateful for the grass roots support as well as national funding and partnerships which enable this work to take place as part of their Cornish Doorways project. Funding partners include Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund, The Garfield Weston Foundation, Feast Cornwall and many local donors.
