Sasha Regan will be returning to the Hall for Cornwall with her newest production Iolanthe on Friday May 11 and Saturday May 12.

The comic opera will feature an all-male cast and will follow a party of naughty schoolboys as they adventure into the magical surroundings of an old theatre.

Amongst the backstage paraphernalia they discover a Narnia-like wardrobe and a dusty copy of Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe.

The music is generally regarded as Sir Arthur Sullivan's most beautiful score, and Iolanthe is a love story between fairies and members of the House of Lords.

The opera satirises the House of Lords, and audience members might be surprised at how relevant some of the comedy is to today's political situation.

In a review, The Independent said: "Sasha Regan and her boys are doing something just as gloriously fresh and inventive as Matthew Bourne did with Swan Lake."

Iolanthe became Gilbert and Sullivan's fourth major success in 1882 when it became the first work to premiere at the Savoy in London; a production that saw it becoming the first new theatre production in the world to be illuminated entirely with electric lights.

When Sasha's production premiered at Winton's Music Hall in London in 2011, Iolanthe was nominated for numerous Off West End Awards including Best Director, Best Choreographer, Best Production, Best Costume Design, and Best Male Performance.

Sasha's previous productions include the barmy, award-winning, all-male version of The Pirates of Penzance.

Currently touring the UK, Sasha Regan has taken her award winning productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operas as far as Australia.

The production is running on Friday May 11 at 7:30pm, and Saturday May 12 at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets range from £13 to £28 and can be purchased at hallforcornwall.co.uk.
