THE Christmas Harmony Choir’s street collection for local charities was counted at the Mayor’s parlour on Thursday evening by the town manager, his staff and the choir’s committee. The total amount of £1,407.48 was raised.

The committee felt that this was an excellent sum of money collected considering the weather on Christmas Eve morning with the rain not forecast to clear until midday. This must have caused people to think twice about listening to the choir in bad weather and coming into Falmouth and not so many people as last year turned out. However, the weather cleared away miraculously at 10.30am, just as the choir started their concerts through the Falmouth streets singing the traditional Cornish carols under blue sky.

There are a lot of people to thank for all their efforts to put this wonderful morning’s singing together, enjoyed by so many people. The town manager and his staff for their help in getting licences, crowd barriers, etc; all the collectors who did so well and turned out despite the earlier weather; the Falmouth Rugby Club for providing a pasty and pint for the singers at the club, who enjoyed another bout of singing making a lovely atmosphere in the club all afternoon; to all the singers from the many male voice choirs who attended, swelling the choir to over a 100 voices.

The committee wishes to express their grateful thanks to everyone involved.

The cheques will be presented at the Falmouth Bowling Club on Saturday, February 9 at 7.30pm and everyone is invited to attend. Admission is free, entertainment will be kindly donated by the Lemonaires, a raffle will be held and a light finger buffet provided. Please come along and support the choir.

Cheques will be presented to: Falmouth Street Pastors, Pirate Ship for a Princess (play area for children in memory of Chloe, who died from cancer aged eight), Dementia UK Cornwall (to provide Admiral Nurses for patients in Cornwall), Falmouth Festival Fund.
