After reading the recent letters in the Packet about the Shrubberies Hill plans I have to respond to the lengthy missive from Gill Zelda Martin.

How can anyone write such a letter when they were not at the meeting? How does this person know what happened and what didn’t happen if they were not present? I would not presume to voice an opinion about something I did not witness. I am the councillor who resigned and it was not, as this letter states, because “the vote did not favour my personal choice”. I resigned because I felt that I could not work on a council that behaves the way it did that morning.

Any opposition to the application for homes on Shrubberies Hill was ignored or trivialised and we were there as councillors to represent the people of Porthleven, the majority of whom had been against it at the recent public meeting.

I strongly object to the last paragraph in G Z Martin’s letter. I was a councillor for five years and worked hard for the village, giving quite a lot of my spare time. How dare this person say that I was not best placed to be a councillor?

Why doesn’t this person do the job, seeing as how they have a lot to say about everything!
