As a deeply concerned and engaged parent I, like many others, have had many run-ins with Mrs Taylor of King Charles School over the years, writing letters and even going in to see her on several occasions. But you get to a point where you realise that no one is listening and you don’t want to stigmatise your children at the school.

There have been so many events, stories and rumours, including well respected, established teachers leaving acrimoniously and resignations of long-standing governors who found it impossible to stay. Even new teachers have left; apparently one after just five weeks having relocated from London. Over the last few years there has been a growing number of parents removing their children, when previously you couldn’t get your child into the school.

I must ask: why has it taken so long for this to all to come to a head? Why has our children’s education had to be compromised before the authorities are finally doing something about it? The last Ofsted report was only satisfactory, now they are in special measures! Heather Taylor can probably get another job, somewhere: our children only have one chance at their education.

And what does the future hold for the school? Are there to be months of uncertainty, followed by Mrs Taylor’s eventual return like last time?

This uncertainty is very disruptive to the children, bad for the reputation of this well-respected school and should not be allowed to happen again. All we have been told is that she is ‘absent’. If she hasn’t already done so she should stand up to her responsibilities and do the right thing by resigning with immediate effect. If she does not, then the authorities should act - immediately so that she does not continue to be a burden to the education budget. The school has been found to be not fit for purpose and she, as its head, is ultimately responsible.

We look forward to a fresh start and a new beginning under new leadership to make sure our children receive the education they deserve.
