May I through your letters column, express my thanks to everyone who supported the recent Falmouth to Truro 150th Anniversary Railway Branchline celebration day on August 24 on The Moor, in Falmouth.

As co-organiser and a “Friend of Penmere Station”, it turned out to be a wonderful day for all, with the centre of attention being the former Great Western Railway steam locomotive No 6435, kindly loaned for the weekend by The Bodmin and Wenford Railway.

Steam from two mini-traction engines and a model railway together with stalls promoting ‘The Friends’ and the Falmouth branch of The Mission to Seafarers enjoyed great interest from locals and holidaymakers alike. There was also a small railway-ana display, courtesy of Dave Hibberd.

A grand total of £151 was raised by “The Friends” for future projects. The small station garden group are now almost in their 20th year since their formation.

Thank you again to all who participated in a marvellous and historic day.
