MY wife and I stayed in Porthleven during September and enjoyed the town very much. In fact we have just booked again for a week in September 2014 in the same accommodation in Fore Street.

However, the public toilets in the town were the very worst we have encountered anywhere in England Those by the harbour near the tower and those in (is it) Prospect Place, near the fish and chip shop, were absolutely disgraceful and frankly unusable. They were filthy, stank of urine, the floors were running wet and there was no running water or soap or working hand driers, except for the gents in Prospect Place which had water only. In fact my wife had to use that toilet while I stood guard outside! There was no lighting either making them rather unsafe for the visitor.

Surely this is a matter to which one should alert the Public Health Department. It was such a shame in what was otherwise a welcoming and nice town to visit and needs to be rectified if visitor numbers are to be maintained.

We also noticed a much high number of dog faeces in the town compared with where we live. This is the fault of dog owners I realise but some effort to educate or penalise them must be made locally for the same reasons as above. Children are at risk of infection particularly from this problem.

I would be interested to learn whether any notice is taken of my letter and whether any improvements are planned.
