Well Helston Flora is almost with us once again, let’s hope that the current spell of sunny weather has not arrived too soon. Let us also hope that there is not a repeat of the parking fiasco experienced last year.

Last Flora Day a number of vehicles were parked throughout the day along the dance route in Church & Cross Streets, despite there being a Statutory Notice published in the local press stating that the said roads were closed to traffic and parked vehicles would be removed.

Requests to the police from members of the public including myself, to have the offending vehicles towed away were met with the response "nothing to do with us, it's up to Cornwall Council". Well I am sorry Mr policeman you are wrong. My research has shown that once a notice comes into force all normal restrictions are suspended & the enforcement of the said notice rests squarely with the police.

Whilst I agree the police may have more pressing duties on Flora Day, I suspect the band will find their way along the route without being escorted by a number of police officers.

Perhaps this year we can have some action in getting any illegally parked vehicles removed, so as not to spoil the enjoyment of the day for so many people.
