I was bemused by two Conservative pronouncements on policing recently. Firstly, the Tory Police & Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall appears to want to scrap Falmouth’s police desk.
Surely it should be moved into the centre of town - into the Town Council’s building for example - rather than scrapping it all together.
Secondly, I was amazed at the verbal bashing that the Conservative Home Secretary gave to rank and file policemen and women at the Police Federation conference on May 21.
Surely she should be re-motivating police officers, not demoralising them with threats. I think a town the size of Falmouth needs both a police desk and a motivated police force. I’d be interested to hear what police offers themselves think.
