I NEVER realised the bombed school was called Trevethan. My mother attended the school and told me she had to pay one penny for lessons. I was born next door at my grandmother’s house in 1947, as was two of my cousins. It was then called Board School Hill, as is on my birth certificate.
After Saturday morning pictures we used to play in the ruins of the school. The landmark clock tower was taken down with the promise it would be erected elsewhere and was stored in the old corporation yard. My parents were the first to be married in the Emmanuel Church.
