Why should we all be forced to live like sardines?

Because local planning authorities do not have the back bone to say ‘no’.

A planning application for further development of the land at Vinery Meadow in Penryn, has recently been vigorously opposed by locals to no effect, as the town council passed it on a seven to four majority vote this week.

I understand that government make rules about housing, dictating how many houses need to be built in a particular area, but why are we always saying ‘yes’? There are always enormous amounts of houses up for sale why do we have to keep building more and more? How many more people are we expected to cram into this (what was) lovely part of the world? Why are we expected to just let anyone and everyone in to spoil our lovely county? With the figure of 1,500 new houses to be built in Penryn over the next 20 years there really will not be any green space left.

As locals we no longer have a voice and our local councils certainly do not represent our views, so who do we turn to next?

We are losing the reason most people want to live here and the locals are being forced to live surrounded by as many houses as developers can squeeze in. Why should we stand for that?

The council at Penryn certainly are not working on behalf of the local people – I thought they were meant to represent us. We work, pay our tax as genuine honest people and what do we get in return? Everyone currently living in the area of this proposed development has serious concerns about the parking and safety of the local area, the considerable loss of wildlife and have privacy and security concerns.

Perhaps I am rather naive, but I am now beginning to understand that the majority of people who apply to join the council are only out for what they can get; whether that is to boost their own businesses, to help out friends or to receive benefits in many other guises. If they were genuinely there to help support the local community planning applications like this would be considered and discussed for the right reasons. You can guarantee that if this proposal was on their doorsteps it would have been rejected.

Penryn is gradually being ruined thanks to people like this. They should be fighting to keep Cornwall the special place that it is.
