I write in response to your article on June 18 concerning the possibility of opening the Enquiry Office at Falmouth Police Station as a coffee shop.

As one of the Police Enquiry Officers who is currently under threat of losing their job, I would like to point out how insensitive it was of Inspector Lenney to voice his suggestion at this time.

Since January of this year, when myself and my colleagues were advised that we were being reviewed again, with the possibility of facing redundancy (having been reviewed approximately three years ago when half of us then lost our jobs) we have been going through a roller coaster of emotions, awaiting our fate, which will be decided in about four months time, but have continued to carry out our roles in a professional and caring manner.

Many of us have been employed as Enquiry Officers, dealing with the public on a daily basis, for a number of years, and to hear that one of our colleagues apparently can’t wait for us to leave so that he can embark on this new ‘exciting’ venture somewhat beggars belief.

He might not think the times are ‘dire’ but sitting where I am I have a slightly different view and I would suggest that if this officer was facing the prospect of being made redundant, he may have a little bit more compassion.
