I write in response to Terry Smith, of Bay Court, who wrote last week about 'scruffy' Falmouth. I agree with your comments wholeheartedly Terry, and yes, it is a shame that Cornwall Council seems to have abdicated their responsibility.

On a positive note, I would like to make everyone aware of a new group that has been set up, called Friends of Falmouth Bay. The group is run by Bruce Hobbs and Shaun Davie from the Falmouth and District Hotels Association, and Councillor Steve Gray, Arwenack Ward, and is being supported by the Falmouth Bay Residents Association.

Bruce, and the team, have been working to improve Falmouth sea front for a year now, painting and weeding around the benches and shelters. They are always looking for volunteers, and donations to buy paint etc.

You can find Friends of Falmouth Bay on Facebook, where there are regular announcements about times and meeting places for volunteers, and regular photos and updates of their achievements.

I am not getting into the realms of whether or not it should be down to volunteers to keep the sea front clean and tidy, but clearly we need to be proactive if we want Falmouth to look it's best.

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to make a donation please contact Bruce Hobbs on 01326 319947.
