With the cuts in services Cornwall Council are proposing and the transferral of yet more services and 'assets' to town and parish councils, Cornwall Council will inevitably end up with far fewer responsibilities than currently.

I therefore believe that it is time a boundary review was conducted and a reduction made in the amount of Cornwall Councillors. I think this would save money not only on basic allowances but additionally special responsibilities allowances, expenses, as well as the cost of some training.

I believe if the public are expected to cope with cuts to services and the abolition of some provisions, then Cornwall Councillors could also cope with stretched responsibilities. Of course just which councillors would be prepared to take on larger areas and think they hold the ability to cope with such, would remain to be seen at an election. I have no doubt at all that some councillors would be quite capable of representing a larger area than currently, as they already do an excellent job, evident by their achievements at local and county level, and some may not.

Whatever happens, I personally look forward to the next council election and hope it will be a politically democratic election, in which if one is lucky, they will actually get what they are led to believe they are voting for.
