Helston Packet Article “Coveted portrait proves bone of contention.”

I believe the portraits of Wing Commander Guy Gibson of which Helston Town Council currently have possession, should be transferred to Porthleven Town Council. Guy Gibson has well known strong connections to Porthleven, for this reason Porthleven has a road named after him, memorial in the cemetery and a plaque on the Institute.

I think it only appropriate that since Porthleven and Helston are no longer one borough council, that the portraits be handed over to Porthleven Town Council.

Helston has many of its own historic connections, such as Henry Trengrouse and Bob Fitzsimmons etc.
I do not believe Helston Town Council has any specific right to retain the portraits of Wing Commander Guy Gibson, and it would be a fitting gesture to pass them to Porthleven Town Council, where they could be appropriately displayed.
