YOUR correspondent last week highlighted a very important issue for our town.
I shop in town several times every week, including the household shopping, and can fully relate to the points he makes.
However, we have a highly successful and award-winning town centre shopping street, which is the envy of other towns up and down the country and we cannot afford to put this at risk.
The key point is that if the street is closed we would lose our only town-centre shoppers car park.
Before we rush into closing the street to traffic during shopping hours we need to research the issue very carefully and look at evidence from other towns that have tried it to see how it worked for them. Perhaps your readers can help with this.
Certainly it would be a great improvement to keep traffic out of the street, but it might kill Falmouth as a shopping and entertainment centre and that would be a disaster.
Oliver Cramp,
Falmouth Town Councillor
