LAST week someone wrote to the Packet to say that the town centre should be closed to traffic at all times.
This week councillor Oliver Cramp writes about potential problems with this approach. In neither case is there the slightest reference to older people and those with limited mobility.
Have either of these letter writers the remotest idea what it is like to try to use the shops, cafes, restaurants, churches etc if you can only walk a very short distance, let alone carry purchases for more than a few yards? We are part of the community you know, those of us for whom it is a great struggle to try to manage.
The existing system, whereby we are allowed to use the shops at the beginning and end of the day, is a humane compromise.
If any changes are made they must be accompanied by a full shop-mobility service with car parking at the point where scooters are collected and low charges.
It is very frightening to think that at the stroke of a pen (or computer tap) the council could fundamentally prevent the disabled from being a part of Falmouth life.
