WE have recently returned from a holiday in Madeira. Our hotel overlooked the harbour at Funchal. We were amazed to see 14 different cruise ships visit the port, one a day on average although at one time there were three moored alongside at the same time.
These included the Queen Victoria, Oriana, Thompson Majesty and three of the Aida ships.
The passenger terminal is not large and, in fact, quite ordinary. Coaches were waiting to take the visitors all over the island, which we estimate is about the size of Cornwall. This was quite an eye opener for us.
Wake up Falmouth and the various “agencies”, dredge the harbour, think more about the economic benefits, much needed for this wonderful county.
