We would like to thank Mrs Grierson for her kind remarks re the Harmony Choir in last week’s edition of The Packet.

We agree this is what Christmas is all about, what would Falmouth be like on Christmas Eve without the Harmony Choir’s performance through the streets, drawing many thousands of people into the town.

We have been told many times that the choir’s performance makes their Christmas.

The choir has now given 115 performances over the years. Our aim is for the choir to continue singing traditional Cornish carols from the pen of Thomas Merritt and Warmington, which are sung all over Cornwall.

Thanks must go to our local male voice choirs, Treverva, Nankersey, Stithians, Truro City, Eight in a Bar, Lemonaires, Cadgwith Singers and even members from as far as Mevagissey and Mousehole, who join us every year, making a choir of 100 strong by the time the locals and male members of mixed choirs locally join in.

We are always glad to welcome new members, especially young singers who will replace those members who have passed away to join that great choir in the skies.

Each year a collection is made as the choir passes through the streets, raising money for local charities that apply for our help. The collection is then counted and divided between four local charities.

This year the recipients are:

  •  ABLe Club, for transport to take visually impaired people on trips and social events.
  •  The Boscawen Fields Action Group, for improvements to the field for the enjoyment of the public.
  • Kernow Huffa Puffas, to support excercise classes for people with breathing problems.
  • Falmouth Festival Fund, which raises money for Christmas lights and town decorations for festivals (managed by Falmouth town council).

The presentation of the cheques to the charities will be held at Falmouth Bowling Club on Saturday, February 7 at 7.30pm.

There will be entertainment and light refreshments, a raffle and admission is free. All are invited to attend.

Chairman of the Harmony Choir
