I am writing in response to last week's letter by Mrs Mary Bradley – “Will beach huts block public access if built?”

After reading Mrs Bradley's letter, and taking on board her concerns, we went down to the promenade this afternoon with our tape measure and chalk, and I would be happy to email a photo to Mrs Bradley if it will help with her concerns.

Once the beach huts are situated, and allowing three feet in front of them for people to sit out, there will still be a nine foot space between them and the edge of the promenade.

We thought it would be a good idea to draw a line along the promenade, approximately three feet in front of the huts, and when the owners are given their welcome packs, we will ask them to ensure that their deckchairs etc do not cross this line, in order to ensure there is a clear route along the promenade to the toilet block.

There is evidence that there were 24 beach huts along the promenade in the past. We have applied for planning permission for 15, thereby ensuring that there will still be a large area available for people to sit, should they choose not to go down onto the beach.

I hope this has addressed Mrs Bradley's concerns, and likewise any concerns by members of the public. We are always happy to hear of any issues affecting our customers and will do our best to ensure they are dealt with to the best of our ability whenever possible.
