I write with regard to your recent article in the Falmouth Packet and feel that the record must be put straight. As a witness to the events, and indeed a previous article within your paper mentioned, there is more to the tale.

Whilst the iconic wooden relief had been damaged by a drunken student, when it slipped from his grasp, the damage was minor with just one small piece flying off. The relief is now in six pieces; this was caused by overzealous officers haring up church street with lights and sirens blaring, narrowly missing revellers and promptly driving over St George with both the front and rear wheels of the attending Panda car.

I appreciate that the student caused the problem, but it is unfair to heap all blame on ‘a drunken student’, when the true cause was a comedy of errors.

Whilst I commend the donations received I find it incredulous that there are none listed from the Falmouth police force.

I do not wish to tarnish the reputation of the police especially in this week of mourning for Andy Hocking, but in the true nature of balance, the true facts should be reported; one has only to review previous reports of this to gain a fuller understanding of what occurred a decade ago. To give an airbrushed version of events does your publication and your readers a disservice.
