Helston Town Councillors would like to revamp the roundabouts in the town and appear to be having problems with red-tape.

Councillor Mike Thomas, the Mayor, said, "It just mystifies me that Falmouth and Truro do so well, and we can't seem to do anything", with complete respect to Councillor Mike Thomas, I think perhaps that was not such a good choice of words.

The Helston Business Improvement Partnership which is largely funded in a roundabout way from section 106 Tesco/Sainsbury money via the town council, have set aside £7,500 for the project. The group are apparently waiting for the outcome of a current consultation, over which way visitors should be directed into Helston, either by the original route past Gwealdues or the new link road to Clodgey Way.

I personally think they should dismiss the consultation and the possibility of wasting money, and leave visitors to decide for themselves which way they wish to approach Helston town centre, using the current road traffic signs, their Sat-Navs or just good old plain common sense, depending on where exactly in the town visitors want to go.

In my view there is little point in focusing on directing people to any specific route to any particular car-park or area of the town, parking locations and approach into the town centre is a matter of personal choice.

I thought the section 106 Sainsbury's/Tesco's gifted money, was supposed to be used for things in the town centre, for which to offset the perceived negative effects of the out of town supermarkets, with the hope to increase footfall in the town centre. To use money and concentrate on directing people into the town centre, virtually via Tesco's (Gwealdues route) or Sainsbury's (link road, Clodgey way) seems to me a slight waste of money, which in my opinion is money that would be better utilised within the town centre itself.
