As a former National Chairman of Friends of the Earth and a former ITN Environmentalist of the Decade, now living in the St Ives constituency, I have been shocked by a recent virulent Green Party attack upon our sitting MP Andrew George.

Being committed to green issues is one thing; opposing the ONLY candidate who can win in this area and who has strong green credentials is another.

We all know that the choice in the St Ives constituency is an outstanding local MP in Andrew George or an inexperienced Tory; for the Greens to attack Mr George is to play into the hands of the Tory and achieve the worst possible result for all green-minded voters.

I would urge any environmentally-concerned voter to recognise the political realities: the Greens CANNOT win and it is perverse and petty of them to try to undermine the one candidate who can.
