I would like to respond to an article in the Falmouth Packet on June 10 in response to Penryn Council's comments about community grants.

As a long standing member of Penryn Twinning Association I would like to make it clear that as a Twinning Association we have never stipulated any amount of money when we have applied for a grant or been asked to provide copies of our accounts. We have been very grateful of any grant offered and also work very hard throughout the year with fundraising events.

Between 26-30 Twinners from Audierne in Brittany visit Penryn every alternate year, we arrange a social evening, a lunch and a cultural visit. The money from the grant and all money raised is used towards this.

All Twinning members self fund for events here and when we visit Brittany. None of the grant money or money raised is used by any Twinning member. The Mayor of Penryn (in office at the time) is the president of The Twinning Association and previous Mayors have joined us in visits here and in Brittany and are fully aware of how the grant money is used and its commitment of all Twinning members to maintain the cultural link.
