YET again the case to get dredging in Falmouth moving as quickly as possible was outlined in the starkest terms this week after the Norwegian cruise ship the Norwegian Star had to cancel transporting its passengers ashore because of rough seas.

This has potentially cost Falmouth and the rest of Cornwall hundred s of thousands of pounds in lost revenue and future revenue if the cruise company decides it is not worth the effort in future.

This was the first time the ship had called into the port and it may well be put off coming in the future if it cannot drop its passengers off. Some businesses had brought in extra staff early to cope with the expected demand only to have to be stood down.

If the port was dredged, it would mean big cruise liners like the Norwegian Star would have been able to come right into the docks and disembark its passengers safely.

With the cruise business continuing to expand rapidly, it is more important than ever that the dredging is moved on as quickly as possible.
