ONCE again, it is interesting to note that the London-based press are having a field day with their version of the truth following the news that Cornwall Council employees have been invited to learn a few phrases of Cornish.

This has been turned into a circus act with local papers and attendant naysayers joining in on the misreporting of a perfectly innocent piece of minor news.

The Cornish language has been legally recognised since 2002 and the people who speak it have been classed as a national minority with legal rights since 2014.

So, members of the press, get over it. The Cornish and their language have been here for a few thousand years and we are here to stay.

Apparently, in today’s world, one needs to be identical with everyone else in order to fit in and to be “one of the herd.”

I prefer to be part of a polyglot and multicultural society. Better that than an homogenised and bland culture where everyone is a copy of everyone else.

In the Daily Mail they state that just 500 speak Cornish as their first tongue....Kernow of vy ha Kernewek agan yeth!
