The main reason for my objection to the expansion of the number of students is the impact it has on communities in Falmouth. We have seen over the past few years an expansion of student housing in our area that has had a detrimental effect on neighbourhood cohesion.

In one small part of Budock Terrace students occcupy No's 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, ( 40, 46, 47 are local residents )

Which equates to 7 adults and 1 child to a ratio of 36 students. If we look at the other side No's 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 are student houses which is another 20 students.

This is being replicated in other parts of Budock Terrace, Marlbourgh Road, Merrill Place and Lister street to name but a few and other parts of Falmouth.

Residents who have lived in this area for most of their lives are moving out because of the above and the problems that have occurred in the area since students have moved in.

A recent resident ( 94 ) opted to go in a home as she was lonely with the nearest neighbour being 10 houses away, lived in her house for 92 years. A young couple with a 14 month old baby who had moved into Budock Terrace for a couple of years moved out recently because of the problems with noise and no other families.

It is being discussed about bringing in Article 4 to limit more HMO's but the residents in already over populated streets will be left isolated. You must take into account the impact where there are more than 50% HMO's already. In Budock Terrace and surrounding streets the figure is already 80% and the impact of this is having a detrimental effect on the remaining residents .

The proposed student expansion only caters for 1st year students. What happens to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students say 2,500 students in the first year equates to in the 4th year 10,000 students.

I and other residents of Budock Terrace invite any interested parties to come and see for themselves the problems associated with large numbers of student housing. A special invitation is extended to anyone from the higher echelons of the University.
