AS the person responsible for writing the story about Len Lewis's achievement in completing the Flora London Marathon, it was disappointing to read such a disparaging letter from a fellow runner.
Len's comment - "the older I get, the faster I run" - was a tongue-in-cheek comment at the end of a story and said merely to imply that he is, hopefully, capable of running the course quicker if the conditions allowed and his fitness held up.
It is rather remarkable that a fellow road runner should be offended by such a harmless piece of nonsense.
At no time did Len mention other runners - least of all those who are 75+ and still serious runners - or what times they should be achieving. Therefore, it is baffling why there should be such sour criticism of someone doing his bit for charity.
Len has raised around £6,000 for charity from his two marathon runs and hopefully this narrow-minded attitude won't affect his decision to run in future events.
