Councils could do more for public transport users

9:39am Wednesday 7th May 2008

CITY airport doubles up on destinations and Tim Jones, chairman of Devon and Cornwall Business Council, is pleased.

I too would also be pleased if a soupcon more attention was paid both in Devon and Cornwall to the subject of accessibility (non) to both of our airports, Newquay and Plymouth, by public road transport.

Whilst realising that both airports would like to cater primarily for the business fraternity, ie not having to rub shoulders with "bucket and spade" fraternity, aircraft passengers, bums on aircraft seats would, could, be greatly increased if both of the councils concerned would do as much for those of us reliant on public road transport as they do when it comes to looking after themselves with cars, both private and provided by councils to ensure their staff needs are met, as and when any of them fly off, expenses paid from our airports, but which are not served, serviced, by appropriate dedicated airport bus/coach services either direct from Truro or the far flung corners of the county, if not from Devon as well, albeit they have a choice of Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol nearer to hand!
