SEVERAL details in your report regarding the above need to be clarified.
During redevelopment works on the company's property at College Hill during the summer of 1976 the crucifix was discovered, as reported. However, it was taken from the site soon after discovery by an officer of Carrick district council.
Following research by Craig Weatherhill in 1990, the crucifix was located in the offices of Carrick's planning department.
It was deemed by the coroner's office to be owned by P Dawe and Sons Limited, and was subsequently handed back to them after 14 years.
The directors of the company always intended that the crucifix should be displayed in the Penryn Museum, for all to see. On being reassured that it would not "disappear" again the crucifix was gifted to the museum in July 2007.
