THE plant that needed identification in last week's Falmouth Packet (page 6) is in fact a Puya Alpestris (bormeliaceae).
It requires full light and well drained soil and is also half hardy and can grow to six feet.
Another variety is Puya Chilensis, it is similar in appearance but has metallic yellow or greenish yellow flowers.
In Fox Rosehill Gardens there is a type of Puya over 30 feet in height.
