WE were saddened to hear of the death of Derek Parsons from Flushing-Falmouth on the 29th of March 2008 at a Cornwall hospital.

The Stewart families and Wright family in South Australia had known Mr Parsons for over 50 years. He called my mother Judy "his Australian mum" and corresponded with her regularly with letters, talking about his family, events going on in Flushing-Falmouth, as well as sending tapes about shipping and Christmas shows.

He was thought of very highly by the Wright family at Salisbury East, with whom he last visited in October 1999. We enjoyed taking him on trips to Wallaroo (where he first met the Stewart family while travelling on a merchant ship in the 1950s), Moonta and Kadina, the three towns where they hold the Cornish festival "Kernewek Lowender" every two years. He always had his tape and video recorder with him to take footage of the various places he visited.

We are going to miss him Derek a lot, especially his letters, cards, and calendar of Cornwall he sent every year.
