NOW that Alistair Darling has made a shake-up in the second homes market by not allowing them to have tax breaks, what about all the student landlords who have been bleeding us dry by not paying for council tax or anything to our towns and cities?
Thousands and thousands of pounds are lost to the economy because they are exempt, but we have paid for their free services for years and we can’t keep doing it. Again, these people grow rich while taking money from us.
The government was to reimburse our councils for every student house, but I can tell you this, it is not happening, as councils up and down the country have no idea how many houses have been sold for the student HMO and I know that our council has no idea either.
These people buy up our houses and within a year they look like a scrap heap and they don’t pay a penny, but they charge anything from £65 to £100 for a room and fit in as many students as they can.
Some landlords have many houses in which none pay tax and this is also driving up the price of our houses.
So, if Darling is going to stop the tax breaks then let us see if he does it for the landlords of HMOs in every town and city.
