C’mon Skipper get a grip, pick on another target

COME on Skipper get a grip! The Lib Dems were pledging a freeze on councillor allowances long before election day, not after the formation of the new council. Like all large employers private as well as public, CC has a duty of care to provide safe, clean drinking water throughout the working day to its employees. In 2005 the council spent £70,000 pa on drinking water fountains and the like.

The Lib Dem administration introduced piped water which cost £20,000 pa in 2007, saving a cool £50,000 pa in the process for a better solution. The council newspaper? The benefit greatly outweighs the tiny cost, I for one find it quite an interesting read and informative about issues the local media don’t usually cover, such as good news!

More to the point we need to get a sense of perspective, the council has a turnover of £1bn, it’s the big issues we need to look at in detail rather than whether or not a tiny expenditure in percentage terms should absorb so much mental effort and produce so much angst.

“Huge sums” and “millions” on allowances and expenses? Maybe you could back those figures up shortly so we can see the real truth.

Here’s a suggestion. Instead of trivial issues such as these, how about exposing the scandal of our town’s lack of affordable housing provision? Or why our planning committees have turned away over £80m of private sector investment in the past couple of years.
