HOW pleasing to read that the events leading to the absence of the Working Boats from last year’s Falmouth Week have been resolved and that once again they will be providing their 100+ year-old traditional spectacle across the waters before us. “Well done” to all concerned with resolving the contretemps!
On reading that during Falmouth Week this year, there will be a re-enactment, in miniature, of the Battle of Trafalgar, I am writing to ask if you would be good enough to publicise the trophy to be awarded by Falmouth Town Regatta Committee for the youngest helm under 18 participating in FW.
My wife and I presented the Trafalgar Cup, the year we celebrated the anniversary here in Falmouth, as it coincided with my retirement as prizes’ secretary for FTRC, to encourage any budding Bens (or Benitas!) to participate at an early age.
However, I understand that last year no names were submitted for this award and it has been languishing in a committee member’s cupboard for the year instead of being in pride of place in some youngster’s home! Surely this year there must be some keen helm eager to show their skills?
Our good wishes to all who go on the water during Falmouth Week.
Ian and Patrick Preddy, Dunstanville, Falmouth
