THERE has been considerable debate on the issue, of the future of the quay and the provision of alternative parking in Falmouth.

When you look at the harbourside development proposed for the present car park site, there is not as much access for the public to view the water from the quay and the town rising behind them, as there is now.

The argument that the town, as seen from the water is not attractive, and would be improved by large scale waterfront development, is not convincing: Falmouth presents an interesting and varied group of buildings and erecting structures on the sea front would not enhance the town.

The motor car is not in favour today. However, we have them, they need to be parked somewhere and I imagine that traders in Falmouth welcome the car park as do their customers.

It would be sad to see the town following in Truro’s wake, with Marks & Spencer and Sainsburys dominating areas of the city with megaliths.
