MY wife and I have just returned from the Remembrance Service, which was held at Kimberley Park in Falmouth.

It was very gratifying to see the number of people, especially youngsters, who braved the wet and windy weather to be part of this very important occasion.

Sadly, however the solemnity of the occasion was marred by the lack of music to lead the hymn singing.

The vicar, the Rev Barrington Bennetts, made a magnificent effort to try and get everyone to sing but to no avail.

The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the service sheets had all been given to the front row, who seemed to have one each, whilst the rest had none and so could not join in. When the rain came near the end of the service, it was some time before someone offered the, by now, very wet Barrington an umbrella.

I realise that bands are all quickly booked up for this day and we were probably very lucky to get the magnificent marching pipe band but, knowing this, can't a CD be made of the hymns and played on the PA system? Additionally, surely someone should have noticed that no one behind the front row had a service sheet. At the end I left feeling very sad that such a well attended service should have been spoiled by a couple of oversights.
