Warmth and friendliness of the people of Falmouth made the Finn Festival fantastic

I recently had the pleasure of working as a volunteer during the Finn Festival with the privelege of meeting many world class yachtsmen. I would like to pass on some of the many complimentary comments made by the competitors and the officals.

Firstly the support of the public sector was much appreciated and the support of Cornwall Council and Falmouth Town Council was highly regarded.

“To feel that we had the City behind us was good” one international competitor said. Without this public support world class events would be difficult to bring to Falmouth with all the consequent economic good for the area.

However it was the warmth and friendliness of the people of Falmouth that most commended us to them. They liked the attractive ‘city’ and the ‘lovely’ restaurants. They felt welcome. “It is a good place to be,” said another competitor recently returned from America.

Of course our capricious weather did not help the sailing but once on land all the comments I heard were appreciative of the work of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, the many other sailing clubs around the Crrick Roads and the people of Falmouth. We must hope they come again soon by which time telescopes will be at the ready on Pendennis Point!
